What we do at work to get our models into the Collada format is we use a program/plug-in called Polytrans. The way it works I guess is that you will need Google. Sketchup so that you can export from their into the Collada format. The Polytrans makes your Max file into a Google Sketchup file and then you open in Sketchup and export as .dae Collada.
